Tribal Selectionon August 8, 2012
One of our shops at the Activity Centre at the Falls Resort is Tribal Selection. It has a lovely array of African products for sale, just perfect to take home as gifts. There are books, T-shirts, caps, bags, shoes, textiles and paintings. They are all wonderful mementoes of a visit to the Victoria Falls in Zambia.
The books tell the stories of our region from the time of David Livingstone to the present day. There are oil paintings by Larry Norton who lives in Victoria Falls Town, Zimbabwe, and paints stunning wildlife scenes. Stephen Robinson’s panoramic photos are there too. Stephen lives in Kitwe, Zambia, and takes fantastic photos, many of them the Victoria Falls.
In Luangwa Valley, one of our most famous wildlife areas, there is a company, Tribal Textiles, which specialises in hand-painted textiles so you will find bedspreads, cushion covers and table cloths from there. Beautiful leather handbags are made in Lusaka and these are also on display for sale.
The owner of the shop is Sue Brink. Sue is well-known to us at the Falls Resort as she is a Livingstone resident. Her husband is the managing director of a company which offers microlight, quad biking, horse riding and river cruises. Sue, though, has a passion for art. It is her second love; her first love being her family. Two years ago she organised an art exhibition at the hotels and brought together some of our best artists in the region. The paintings and photographs adorned many areas of both hotels for everyone to enjoy. For a week the artists mingled with guests talking about their work and about Zambia and Africa. It was a special experience for our guests who could talk to artists who spend their time walking, painting and photographing in our remote areas.
Sue has promised to organise another art exhibition at the Falls Resort for our guests to enjoy, so we’re all looking forward to that!
